Dolpo

Dolpo, in the far north-west, is one of the most remote parts of Nepal: Tibetan Buddhist villages, high passes and the turquoise Phoksundo Lake in Shey Phoksundo National Park. Upper Dolpo is a restricted area, reached on long, wild walks.

Dolpo lies partly in the rain shadow, so the summer months are good for the high valleys. The flights to Juphal depend on the weather, and winter closes the passes.

Good to know

  • Remote. Lodges are few. Many nights in Upper Dolpo are in tents or simple homes.
  • Flights. Keep spare days for the flights to and from Juphal.

Other trails here can be walked too. Tell me which one, and we plan it together.

Tell me a little about the walk you have in mind. I read every message myself and usually reply within a day; from the trail, where there is often no network, it can take a few days.

Or, if you prefer, write to me on WhatsApp.
