Cancellation Policy

Every trip is different, so cancellation and refund terms are agreed individually for each booking and confirmed in writing by email before you pay anything. This page explains the general principles I follow. As a licensed guide, I aim to be fair and transparent in every case.

1. Your agreed terms come first

The cancellation and refund terms confirmed in our email conversation (your “trip agreement”) are the ones that apply to your booking. If you are unsure what was agreed, just ask and I will confirm it in writing.

2. If you need to cancel

  • Please tell me by email as early as possible. The date I receive your email is the cancellation date.
  • The refund will follow your trip agreement. In general, the earlier you cancel, the more can be refunded.
  • Costs already paid to others on your behalf, such as permits, domestic flights, hotels or deposits to lodges, can often not be recovered. If a provider does refund anything, I will pass that refund on to you.
  • You will always receive a clear breakdown showing what is refunded and why.

3. Changing your dates

If you would like to move your trip to new dates rather than cancel, contact me. Where possible, I will move your booking and carry your payments over to the new dates. Any extra cost from the change (for example a different flight fare or a new permit) will be explained before anything is confirmed.

4. If I have to cancel

If I have to cancel your trip for a reason within my control, you can choose between:

  • a full refund of everything you have paid me, or
  • new dates, or a similar trip.

5. Events beyond anyone’s control

Sometimes a trip cannot go ahead or has to be shortened because of events outside my control, such as severe weather, landslides, earthquakes, flight cancellations, strikes, illness outbreaks or government restrictions. In these cases I will:

  • offer the best safe alternative route or new dates, or
  • refund the money for services not provided, minus any costs that were already paid and cannot be recovered.

6. Leaving a trip early, or not showing up

If you leave a trip early or do not arrive on the start date, refunds for unused days are not normally possible, because guide, porter, accommodation and permit costs are already committed. Any costs that can be recovered will be refunded. Leaving early for health or safety reasons will always be handled with care and fairness.

7. How refunds are paid

Refunds are normally paid back by the same method you used to pay, unless we agree otherwise. The refund amount and timing are confirmed by email. Bank or transfer charges may be deducted if they apply.

8. Travel insurance

I strongly recommend travel insurance that includes cancellation cover. It can protect you against costs that I am unable to refund, for example if you cancel because of illness or a family emergency.

9. Contact

To cancel or change a booking, or to ask about your terms, contact me through the contact form or the email address shown in the footer of this website.

Write to me

Tell me a little about the walk you have in mind. I read every message myself and usually reply within a day; from the trail, where there is often no network, it can take a few days.

Or, if you prefer, write to me on WhatsApp.
