What Kyanjin Ri is
Kyanjin Ri is the easiest high viewpoint in the Langtang Valley, just above the village of Kyanjin Gompa. There are two tops. The lower one is closer, and the higher one has the wider view. From both, you see Langtang Lirung, the glaciers, and the peaks along the Tibetan border.
Getting there
The Langtang Valley is reached by road from Kathmandu, with no flight. The walk up the valley takes about three days. Most people spend a rest day in Kyanjin Gompa and use it to climb Kyanjin Ri. Kyanjin is also home to Nepal’s first cheese factory. Try the yak cheese.
Honest notes
- Go slowly. Kyanjin Ri is a good acclimatisation climb, but it is high. Turn back if you feel unwell.
- The lower top is enough for many people. The higher top takes longer, on a steeper and narrower path.
- For an even higher view, Tserko Ri is a longer, harder day from the same village.
